OMG! Chou Dou Fu!!! 臭豆腐!!!

So deciding i'll be going back to ShiPai night market, I memorized the chinese characters of 臭豆腐. Add three more words to my chinese vocabulary :). Once at the night market, I was able to spot three stalls that served it. I ordered one to go, plus some popcorn chicken and strawberry ice slush. $140 TWD or $4 USD [insert big grin]. In addition, tonight was the first night that wasn't hot. It almost felt alittle cold. Of course it's probably still 82 degrees + and i'm sure it's only temporary until the season really starts to change around October. But for now, it's a relief.

  1. watcg your weight, you can try to check out the traditional market in your neighborhood, not too far, ask neighbor or the doorman. It will be a total different experience.

  2. Also, close to Din Tai Fong on Xin Yi Lu, there ia a alley永康街(Ueon Kon Jay) where there are many stores and stands, I always went to this stand on the leftside of the alley when you enter the alley to get my favorite deep fried blood rice cake炸豬血糕 on the stick(some time in the papertray)sprinkled with spicies and basil九層塔, yum.., they also have other delicious stuffs, but never tried.

  4. Jealous! I want to be there like now! Is it okay to have an ice slush in Asia? What if the ice was from tap water? =X

  5. @schmangie: It was good, but could use more stink. I'll try the other stands and see if they're better. Or switch to stewed stinky tofu :)
@Irene: I've had several so far and I'm fine. I assume they boil the water first or use only bottled water.

  6. Shipai night market? Do you mean that area near the station as if you're walk towards TAS/tian mu square? It's hard to explain. There's a yoshinoya on the main road, R19 goes down that way. I lived 30 min walk from shipai (in the direction of TAS) and I never saw a night market. I did see a big restaurant conglomerate area (where there's REALLY good 炒飯, watermelon milk, and 12NT icecream bars sometimes) and a big tent where people sell old clothes.

  7. Sounds about right. The Shipai night market is about 5 minutes walking east of ShiPai MRT station. It's very small, two streets. There is another one at Tian Mu square.
